Thompson’s Four-Goal Effort Leads Women’s Soccer To Win

FALL RIVER, Mass. ---- Melanie Thompson (Middleborough, Mass.) netted a career-high four goals, three coming in the first half, as the Massasoit Community College women's soccer team stormed past Bristol CC, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon.

Massasoit (4-1-0) held a commanding 4-0 lead at half as Zhandali Fontes (Taunton, Mass.) found the back of the net in addition to Thompson's trio of goals prior to intermission.

"We started off kind of slow, but then we found our rhythm," head coach Ruben Teixeira said. "Melanie scored our first two goals and we were on a roll from then on. She was on fire and had some great finishes today."

In the second half, Thompson connected for her fourth goal of the contest, while Olivia Curtin (Abington, Mass.) and Marissa Peele (Norwood, Mass.) each scored their first goals of the season.

"Attacking wise everyone was together and it really gave us some great scoring chances," Teixeira said.

In net, Kristin Reardon continued her impressive play, posting her fourth shutout of the season. The Weymouth, Mass., native finished with six saves and has only allowed three goals in five games this season.

Next up for Massasoit is a home contest on Saturday against Holyoke CC. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
