Hawkins, Collins & Reid Named All-Region; Leszczyk Named Region 21 Coach of the Year

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Massasoit women's basketball student-athletes Ty Hawkins, Shardajah Collins and Alyson Reid all earned spots on the NJCAA Region 21 All-Conference Teams, recently announced by the league office. Joining the trio with postseason accolades was Mark Leszczyk who earned All-Region 21 Coach of the Year accolades.

Hawkins, a native of Brentwood, N.Y., and transfer from Jones County CC, produced one of the greatest individual seasons in Massasoit history as she earned All-Region 21 First Team honors. The shooting guard was a scoring machine, setting a new single-season Massasoit women's basketball scoring record by finishing the year with 777 points surpassing Alison Hardiman's record of 667 set back in 2010-11. That point total not only set a new school record, but marked the most in the NJCAA this season.

For the season, Hawkins averaged 31.1 points, second in the nation, along with 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game. The sophomore shot a blistering 50.6 percent from the floor and 75.5 percent from the free throw line, while netting 40 or more points in a game on four occasions. In addition, Hawkins was named Region 21 Tournament MVP as the Warriors captured just their second regional crown in program history.

Joining Hawkins on the first team was backcourt mate Shardajah Collins of Winter Haven, Fla. The freshman averaged 18.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game for the season. Not only was Collins and offensive threat, but she showcased her defensive skills as well, leading the NJCAA in steals per game, swiping 5.5 a contest. Collins was also named to the Region 21 All-Tournament Team and was named NJCAA Player of the Week on Feb. 26th.

Rounding out the three all-region selections is sophomore Alyson Reid of Boston, who earned second team all-region honors. It marks the second straight year Reid, the lone returner for Massasoit, has earned postseason regional accolades. In her two seasons with the Warriors, Massasoit posted an incredible 44-4 record, including 24-1 mark this past season. Reid averaged 8.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.7 steals on the season.

In his second season leading the Warriors, head coach Mark Leszczyk led Massasoit to just its second Region 21 Championship and trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in program history. The Warriors finished the season with a 24-1 overall record as Leszczyk earned NJCAA Region 21 Coach of the Year accolades.

Massasoit was ranked in every NJCAA poll during the 2019-20 campaign, reaching as high as No. 2 and earning the No. 1 spot at the NJCAA National Tournament.
