Massasoit Names Shane Bass Next Women’s Basketball Head Coach

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Athletics Director Julie Mulvey has announced the hiring of Shane Bass to be the next head coach of the Massasoit Community College women's basketball program.

Bass comes to Brockton with a resume full of coaching experiences, highlighted with being a women's basketball assistant coach at Salem State and Fitchburg State and running the New England Huskies Basketball Program, an AAU team he runs in Boston.

"We felt that Shane is a good fit for our women's basketball team," Mulvey said. "He is well known in the Boston area with his AAU program and has plenty of recruiting connections."

Bass has spent the last four years running the New England Huskies AAU Basketball Program, coaching both boys and girls teams as well as being the founder of the organization. He also spent time on the sidelines coaching the Boston Spartans, another team associated with the AAU circuit.

"It's an honor to take over the women's basketball program here at Massasoit," Bass said. "I am really looking forward to improving the team and plan to hit the recruiting trail hard this summer. I think we can build off of last year and cannot wait for the season to get started."

Aside from his AAU ties, Bass spent one season each as an assistant coach at both Salem State (2015-16) and Fitchburg State (2014-15). He also assisted in recruiting efforts at Pine Manor College this past season.

In addition to his collegiate coaching involvement, Bass has several years of experience coaching on the high school level at Cristo Rey Boston (former North Cambridge Catholic) - one year - and as a volunteer assistant coach for Boston Trinity Academy for two years.

Bass inherits a Massasoit women's basketball that went 11-11 last year. He replaces former head coach Colie Trawick who recently accepted the women's basketball head coaching position at the University of Indiana-Kokomo, an NAIA Division II program.
