BRIDGEWATER, Mass. —— Freshman Angelo Monsini (Plymouth) placed fourth in the 200-meter dash to highlight the opening meet for the Massasoit track & field program in 2019 at the BSU Bears Invite on Saturday.

Monsini's fourth place finish in the 200m came in a time of 23.59, in his first-ever collegiate race. His time was just .07 off from qualifying for the NJCAA National Championship, held at Mohawk Valley CC in May.

Lorenzo Espinoza (Stoughton) and Monsini finished 15th and 17th respectively in the 400-meter, posting times of 55.46 and 56.55 in the event. Both times rank in the top-10 in school history for the 400m (Espinoza, 7th; Monsini, 10th).

Espinoza also placed 33rd overall in the 200m (25.66), while Antonio Alves (Quincy) finished the 100-meter in 14.25.

On the women's side, Sofia Cameron of East Bridgewater took part in the 1,500-meter, clocking a time of 6:16.41. Her time ranks fourth all-time at Massasoit in the event, and ranked 45th overall on Saturday.

"The first meet of the season came with some elements (the meet was delayed due to snow), but the student-athletes went out and represented Massasoit with pride," head coach Dacia Samuels said. "We went in more for a training session and came out with results that we'll take back to the drawing board and continue to work on."

Massasoit's next meet is on Saturday at UMass-Dartmouth.
