Massasoit Hosts CCRI on Saturday for Region 21 Crown

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's soccer team hosts CCRI on Saturday for a 1 PM match at Warrior Field. With a victory, Massasoit would capture its fifth consecutive Region 21 Championship and 10th title in 12 seasons under head coach Rui Estrela.

A loss for the Warriors (9-5) would force a third and deciding game against the Knights (4-8) for the regional crown, slated for Tuesday, Oct. 31, with a site yet to be determined.

Massasoit topped CCRI on the road, 4-3, back on Oct. 3 in Lincoln, R.I. In that game, Ruben Almeida (Pawtucket, R.I.) headed home the game-winning goal in the 80th minute in the one-goal victory. Leon Zaffonato (Brazil) had a goal and three assists in the win.

The Warriors enter Saturday's game on a six-game win streak and undefeated in the month of October, which started the last time Massasoit faced CCRI. During the win streak, the Green and White have outscored the opposition 41-6 and posted three shutouts.

The last loss for the Warriors came on Sept. 30 on the road at ASA College, a 4-3 defeat in double overtime.

CCRI boasts a 2-0-1 record over its last three games, defeating Springfield Tech CC and Holyoke CC, while most recently tying the College of Saint Joseph's (Vt.).

Freshman forward Charlie Swann (England) leads the team in scoring, tallying 18 goals and four assists for a total of 40 points. Fellow freshman Leon Zaffonato has 10 goals and nine assists, ranking second in total points (29).
