2013 Men's Soccer Recap

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- In a season that saw its ups and downs, the Massasoit men's soccer team hit an upswing for the last part of the season en route to winning the Region XXI Championship and being minutes away from advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament.

WHERE IT TURNED AROUND
Prior to a contest at Dean College on Oct. 16, the Warriors owned a record of 6-5-2, below the yearly standards set by head coach Rui Estrela.

However, the Warriors would beat their arch rival, 4-3, and string together five straight victories, including the Region XXI crown. The first win at Dean, was a milestone for Coach Estrela, as it marked his 100th career victory leading Massasoit.

REGIONAL CHAMPS
The Warriors fifth win of their late season streak, which started at Dean College, continued at Dean College. Massasoit clipped the Bulldogs, 2-1, to win the league's championship and advance to the New England District Semifinals.

SO CLOSE
Against ASA College, Massasoit fell behind 2-0 early in the New England District Semifinals. The Warriors would rally in the second half and take a 3-2 lead, but ASA would tie the game and eventually win in penalty kicks, ending the season for Massasoit.

LOBO LEADS LEAGUE
Joel Lobo led Division I teams in Region XXI in goals scored (15) and points (35) and finished tied for fourth in assists with five.
