Men’s Soccer Blanks Springfield Tech, 2-0

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College men's soccer team showcased a dominating defense and received goals from Joao Cardoso (Brockton, Mass.) and Joel Lobo (Brockton, Mass.) to earn a 2-0 win over Springfield Tech CC on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors' defense was able to hold STCC to just three shots on goal, while the home team's offense was able to fire off 27 total shots, two finding the back of the net, in the victory.

"Despite the close score, I never thought we were in any trouble during the game today. I think at times we played a little lackadaisical with the ball and tried to take to many guys on one-on-one. But overall, a win is a win and now we look forward to playing Holyoke CC next week," head coach Rui Estrela said.

Massasoit (4-2-2) will play Holyoke CC on Wednesday, with the match set to begin at 4 p.m.

At the 19:43 mark in the first half, Cardoso took a through ball pass from Ruben Varela (Brockton, Mass.), and fired a one-touch left-footed shot past the Rams' keeper to put Massasoit up 1-0.

Early in the second half, with Massasoit still up by a goal, Cardoso set up teammate Lobo for his fourth goal of the season off a free kick to help expand the Warriors' lead at 47:54.

In net, Torrey Medeiros (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished with two saves and kept the Rams scoreless for his third shutout and the fifth blanking of an opponent by the Warriors on the year.
