Second Half Pressure Leads Men’s Basketball By Roxbury, 81-73

ROXBURY, Mass. ---- Trailing at the half, the Massasoit men's basketball team turned up the heat defensively in the second half and received a game-high 32 points from Mike Ward to earn an 81-73 road victory at Roxbury on Tuesday night.

Ward posted his seventh double-double of the season, pulling down 11 rebounds to improve the Warriors to 7-4 overall, 6-2 against divisional foes. The Brockton native shot 14 of 25 from the field and also dished out four assists.

Andrew Groh (East Bridgewater) produced a solid game, not missing a shot going a perfect 4-for-4 at both the foul line and from the field for 12 points. Bryan Tavares (Rockland) added nine points, all after halftime.

Jovani Harper-Lopez (Randolph) added 12 points and Connor Schaefer (Bourne) filled up the box score with six points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. M'Kenzi Ryan (Brockton) chipped in with four points.

Massasoit trailed Roxbury (2-5, 2-4) 39-37 at the break, but outscored the Tigers 44-34 after intermission.

"We were sloppy in the first half and let (Roxbury) take open 3s," head coach Jim Stapleton said. "Second half we were able to press (RCC) and change up our defenses, which gave them some trouble. M'Kenzi Ryan made some big plays for us."

Roxbury did shoot well from downtown, draining 15 of 26 3-point attempts (57.7 percent). DaRon Broadway led the Tigers with 24 points.

The Warriors travel to MassBay CC on Thursday for a 7 PM contest.
