BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Quinsigmaond missed a game-winning 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds left as the Massasoit men's basketball survived a frantic comeback by the visiting Wyverns, winning 66-64, on Saturday afternoon at the Asiaf Field House.
Massasoit (6-4, 5-2) was led offensively by Mike Ward (Brockton), who finished with 22 points, 17 coming in the first half.
Jovani Harper-Lopez (Randolph) netted 13, Omar Jules 10 and Connor Schaefer chipped in with nine in the two-point win.
Massasoit led by as many as 15 in the first half and was up 34-23 at the break.
In the second half, the Wyverns made things interesting. Trailing by five points with 16 seconds left, the Warriors missed a pair of free throws. On the ensuing possession, QCC's James Flynn sank a 3-pointer to pull within a single possession with 7.8 seconds left.
The Wyverns stole the inbounds pass, but the game-winning 3 hit the back of the rim as the Warriors escaped with the victory.
Flynn finished with a game-high 26 points, while Mike Fernandez and Elijah Perez each added 10.
Massasoit plays at Roxbury on Tuesday at 7 PM.
