CCRI Clips Men's Basketball, 96-80

WARWICK, R.I. ---- Colin Campbell finished one assist shy of a triple-double, but his effort was not enough as the Massasoit men's basketball team fell on the road to CCRI, 96-80, on Tuesday night.

Campbell (Holbrook/Holbrook HS) finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists and was outstanding on the defensive end for Massasoit, which dropped to 1-3 on the young season.

"We had a couple of emerging stars tonight in Colin and Anthony (Conway)," head coach Jim Stapleton said. "They both played great for us.

"Colin graduated from high school four years ago and it has taken a little while for him to get into the flow of games, but he looked outstanding. It seemed like he could do anything with the ball and defensively he was guarding guys 5-foot-8 to 6-foot-8. I've coached over 300 games at the junior college level and Colin looked like Magic Johnson out there on the floor tonight."

Conway (Boston/Walpole HS), who Stapleton also indicated as having a breakout game for the Warriors, finished with seven points, 12 rebounds and six assists.

Leading Massasoit in scoring for the second-straight game was Chris Green (Taunton/Bridgton Academy) who poured in a team-best 22 points and played all 40 minutes. Antonio Ferreria (Stoughton/Stoughton HS) finished with 19 points and Trey Jones (Mattapan/Reading HS) scored 18 in the loss.

"For 40 percent of the game we played an uptempo, pressure style of basketball and we were in the game," Stapleton said. "It was the last 60 percent of the game were things did not go our way and they were able to beat us in all aspects."

Massasoit trailed CCRI by just one point at intermission, 39-38, but the game got away from the visiting Warriors in the second half.
