Massasoit Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball team pulled within five points in the closing minutes after trailing by double digits throughout the game, but fell on the short end of a 88-76 decision to CCRI on Saturday afternoon.

Massasoit (10-9) trailed by 13 at the break, and saw its deficit swell to greater than 20 points in the second stanza. CCRI (17-10) opted to slow the game down over the final 10 minutes of the contest after building up the 20-plus point advantage.

The decision nearly proved costly, as the Warriors pressed and trapped their way back into the game. Massasoit pulled within five,  but after Antonio Ferreira (Stoughton) made 1-of-2 at the line the Warriors would get no closer against the Knights.

Ferreira finished with a team-best 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting and making 9-of-12 at the charity stripe.

Anthony Rivers (Boston/John O'Bryant Voc.) came off the bench and scored 18 points and added five rebounds and six assists. Chris Green (Taunton/Bridgton Academy) added 14 points, including four 3-pointers and seven assists.

Kevin Marmolejos topped CCRI with 23 points, while Patrick Marchand scored 21.

The Warriors return to the hardwood on Tuesday, with a road contest at Bunker Hill CC. The contest is set for 8 p.m.
