NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College men's and women's cross country teams took part in their first race of the season, competing at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

"It was great to get out and finally compete in a race," head coach Matt Jordan said. "I was pleased with the way our runners performed and this is a benchmark for our team. We will continue to train and improve those times moving forward. I'm excited to see how we do in a couple of weeks at CCRI."

The next race on the schedule for the Warriors  is the CCRI Tri-State Open Invitational, slated for Oct. 3 in Warwick, R.I.

Three total runners lined up for the Warriors in North Dartmouth, with Kerry O'Neil (Stoughton) cracking the top-100 in the junior varsity face. The sophomore placed 88th out of 285 runners, finishing with a time of 22:15.33 in the 5k route.

On the men's side, freshman James Sepulveda (Brockton/Southeastern Voc) and Zach Arnold (Plymouth/Plymouth South HS) endured the 8k race for the Warriors. In the junior varsity race, Sepulveda finished 133rd out of 200, in a time of 32:34.21, while Arnold placed 153rd in 33:52.89.

"It was a really hot day, especially during the guy's race," Jordan said. "But we toughed it out. I expect to see even faster times in the weeks to come."
