Francis-Ryans Named Region 21 Volleyball Coach of the Year

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- In the first season of women's volleyball at Massasoit in more than three decades, first-year head coach Patricia Francis-Ryans produced an outstanding 2019 campaign, as she was recently recognized as the Region 21 Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Francis-Ryans led Massasoit to a 17-5 overall record along with winning the Region 21 Championship. The regional title marked just the second in program history and the 17 victories tie a school record, with both accomplishments coming back in 1984.

Massasoit cruised through the regular season, going 15-3, featuring a perfect 10-0 record against divisional foes. In fact, 11 of the 15 regular season victories came in straight sets.

In the regional tournament, the Warriors swept Holyoke CC before defeating Northern Essex in four sets for the regional crown.

By winning the Region 21 title, the Warriors hosted the East District Tournament, where the Warriors just missed out on qualifying for the NJCAA Nationals, falling to Fashion Institute of Technology, 3-2.

Of the five losses on the season, four came against opponents that qualified for the NJCAA Division III Nationals in FIT and Queensborough and the other loss came to NJCAA Division II opponent CCRI.

Francis-Ryans saw four Warriors earn All-Region 21 accolades in Emmanuella Paul, Delaney Nagel, Colleen Luongo and Caroline Curtis.

She becomes the second-ever Women's Volleyball Region 21 Coach of the Year, the other being Julie (Ready) Mulvey back in 1984.
