Massasoit Women’s Soccer Season Ends in Regional Semis vs Bristol

HOLYOKE, Mass. ---- The Bristol Bayhawks built up an early halftime lead and went on to defeat the Massasoit women's soccer team in the Region 21 Tournament Semifinals, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Holyoke Community College.

Massasoit concludes the 2019 campaign with a record of 6-8, as the contest marked the final contest in Green and White for sophomores Luana Alves, Brooke Newcomb, Anya Welch-Batstone, Dineida Gomes and Jane Riley.

As for the game, Alyssa Tortora's penalty kick in the 10th minute marked the first of her four goals on the day for the Bristol freshman, as the Bayhawks led 4-0 at the break.

In the second half, Welch-Batstone netted a goal off a penalty kick to account for the lone goal on the day. She finished her two-year career with 98 career points, totaling 42 goals and 14 assists during her time with the Warriors.

Shelby Newcomb made four saves for Massasoit in the loss.

Bristol advances to face Holyoke in the Region 21 Finals slated for Monday at 2 PM.
