BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's soccer program posted another successful season en route to having six student-athletes earn All-Region 21 recognition for their efforts.
Massasoit finished 10-5-1, earning its first double-digit win total since 2008 and placed four players on the first team all-region and two more on the second team.
The first team representatives from the Warriors included, Shelby Sprague (Stoughton), Krista Woodworth (Norton), Shauna Fitzpatrick (Braintree/Whitman-Hanson HS) and Silvia Sosa (New Milford, N.J.). Also receiving all-region honors were Laura Ellis (Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth Voc.) and Ashley Westover (Stoughton/Cardinal Spellman HS) on the second team.
Shelby Sprague was one of the top scoring threats in the nation, finishing her freshman campaign with 25 goals, four assists and 54 points. Her goal total ranked third in the NJCAA, while her point total placed her fifth. She scored in 11 of 16 matches and posted four hat tricks. She also captured the NJCAA Player of the Week award (Oct. 14) and was a two-time NSCAA Player of the Week recipient (Sept. 15 & Sept. 29).
Krista Woodworth was a mainstay in the middle of the field for the Warriors all season. The freshman saw a majority of her time as a central midfielder and was often given the task of guarding the opposition's top offensive players. She finished tops on the team in assists with 10 and second in goals (9). She also earned an NSCAA weekly award back on Oct. 20.
Shauna Fitzpatrick was the last line of defense for the Warriors, serving as the team's sweeper. She helped lead a defense that surrendered just 1.47 goals per game and pitched six shutouts. When given the opportunity to play on offense, Fitzpatrick delivered, netting six goals and added five assists.
Outside midfielder Silvia Sosa was a menace to defenses during her first year at Massasoit. Sosa netted two goals and added three assists, playing both outside mid positions. He hustle and hard nose play helped set up the offense that averaged 3.8 goals per game.
Two-year goalie Laura Ellis surpassed the 100-save plateau in helping Massasoit collect 10 wins and post six clean sheets. Ellis' best game of her career came in a 2-1 double-overtime victory against NJCAA Division I foe Mercer County CC. In that contest, Ellis made a career-best 27 saves. Ellis also earned a NSCAA Player of the Week honor on Sept. 22.
Ashley Westover was a force on the defensive end for the Warriors in 2015. The sophomore stopper was an aggressive defender for Massasoit. She also helped push the offense ahead often sending long passes up to the midfielders and forwards. She started all 16 games and netted one goal on the year.
