FRANKLIN, Mass. ---- Dean College netted two early first half goals and held on to defeat the Massasoit women's soccer, 2-1, at Longley Field.

Massasoit (9-4-1) was only able to get one shot by Dean goalie Nichole Desisto, who finished with 29 saves for the Bulldogs as the Warriors rifled off 29 shots on net.

The first of two quick goals from Dean came in the fifth minute, when Emma Morrison netted a breakaway. Seven minutes later, the Bulldogs would strike again, this time off the foot of Danya Grimaldi to give the home squad a 2-0 advantage.

"Dean scored a quick goal on us and it looked like we weren't ready to play," head coach Jim Stapleton said. "Dean then scored a goal quickly after. So we fell behind early 2-0 and just could not finish around the net. Our forwards continued to run away from the action and we pinged all kinds of quality shots, just didn't score."

In the 24th minute, Shelby Sprague (Stoughton) served a cross to teammate Krista Woodworth (Norton) who headed the ball home to put Massasoit on the board. It marked Woodworth's seventh goal of the season.

In the second half, Massasoit continued to pepper Dean, firing shot after shot, but Desisto held her ground in net as the Bulldogs captured the 2-1 victory.

"The second half was a pretty good half for us," Stapleton said. "We probably should have scored four or five goals, easily, but Dean had a very goalkeeper who had a tremendous game. She made some great saves, a couple from point blank range."

Massasoit rounds out the regular season, hosting Bristol CC, on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
