Second Half Explosion Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Monroe College JV

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. ---- The Massasoit women's soccer team erupted for seven goals in the second half to cruise past the Monroe College JV team, 8-0, on Monday.

Massasoit (9-3-1) led just 1-0 at the half, thanks to a goal off the foot of sophomore Gina Nutting (Rockland) who was set up by Delmy Brooks (Brockton).

The Warriors would wake up offensively following intermission. Massasoit rifled off 24 shots in the second half, seven of which resulted as goals.

Krista Woodworth (Norton), Shelby Sprague (Stoughton) and Daniela Tavares (Brockton) each scored two goals apiece, while Shauna Fitzpatrick (Braintree/Whitman-Hanson HS) chipped in with a goal to round out the scoring spree in the second half.

Laura Ellis (Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth HS) made four saves for the shutout.

Massasoit treks to Dean College on Wednesday for a match starting at 3:30 p.m.
