BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Behind a hat trick by Jessica Teodore, Holyoke CC bested the Massasoit CC women's soccer team, 5-1, on Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Massasoit (7-4, 6-2 Region XXI) fell behind 2-0 at the break on a pair of goals by Teodore.

The physical contest showcased even more intensity after intermission in the marquee matchup between the top two Region XXI Division III programs in New England.

In the 65th minute, Kayla Gomes (Halifax) took on two HCC defenders and broke through to find the back of the net for her team-leading 17th goal of the season.

In total, Massasoit would rifle off 12 shots in the second half, but Gomes' attempt was the only one that would find the net. HCC would add insurance, putting away three more goals for the 5-1 victory.

Massasoit's Laura Ellis (Raynham) finished with a career-high 12 saves in goal in the loss.

WHY MASSASOIT LOST: The Cougars were much more efficient offensively than the Warriors were on Thursday. Both teams took the same number of shots (17), but HCC's offensive opportunities were much better and were able to finish around the goal.

THIRD TIME'S A CHARM: Despite the second loss of the year to HCC, Massasoit will get a third crack at the Cougars. Both squads will square off the Region XXI Division III Championship at HCC on Saturday, Oct. 25.

NEXT UP: Massasoit travels to Manchester, N.H., to take on NHTI on Saturday at 1 p.m.
