Massasoit Earns No. 1 Seed of NJCAA National Tourney; Faces Cedar Valley in Opening Round

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College women's basketball team earned the No. 1 seed for the 2020 NJCAA Women's Basketball Division III National Tournament, hosted by Rock Valley Community College in Rockford, Illinois, from March 12-14.

Massasoit has produced a tremendous 2019-20, posting an undefeated record of 24-0, capped by capturing just the second Region 21 Championship in program history last weekend with a 93-85 victory vs No. 13 UConn-Avery Point.

The Warriors will be making just their second-ever trip to the NJCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, with the lone other appearance coming during the 2013-14 season.

In the opening round of the tournament, which features eight teams, with each school guaranteed three games no matter the outcome, No. 1 Massasoit will face No. 8 Cedar Valley out of Lancaster, Texas. The Warriors and Suns will play on Thursday at 11 AM EST.

The CV Suns (11-10) played in the Southeast District Tournament, where they captured the title by defeating host Prince George's CC, 63-62.

On the season, the Suns featured a balanced scoring attack with five players averaging 7.8 points or more, led by Kailya Payne (11.5ppg). Cedar Valley also owns one of the most lethal 3-point shooting teams in the nation, leading all the NJCAA in 3-point field goal percentage by shooting at a blistering 52.1 percent clip.
