Tenacious Defensive Effort Gives No. 3 Massasoit 99-54 Victory vs CCRI

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball team's tenacious defensive effort, forcing CCRI into 41 turnovers, led the Warriors to a 99-54 victory vs CCRI on Wednesday night.

The win keeps the third-ranked Warriors undefeated at 7-0 and will face No. 10 UConn-Avery Point (5-1) on the road this Saturday at 1 PM.

As for Wednesday, Massasoit brought the heat defensively, most notably in the first half, that catapulted the Warriors to a 58-25 halftime advantage.

In the second quarter alone, Massasoit outscored the Knights (2-7) 36-13 to break the game open.

The nation's leading scorer, Ty Hawkins (Brentwood, N.Y.), finished with a team-best 34 points on 14 of 30 shooting from the floor.

Next in the scoring department was Shardajah Collins (Winter Haven, Fla.) with 22 points on 10 of 17 shooting along with seven steals.

Both Adrianna Grant (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Aliza Bell (Stonington, Conn.) each posted double-doubles and Ranasha Fraizer (New Haven, Conn.) added 10 points. Alyson Reid (Boston) filled up the box score with six points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals for the undefeated Warriors.

Massasoit finished with 25 steals, leading to CCRI's 41 turnovers on the evening. The Warriors lead the nation in steals per game, averaging 25.9 a contest.
