BRONX, New York ---- In a battle of the top two teams in the NJCAA Division III polls, No. 2 Hostos Community College came out on top, as the top-ranked Massasoit women's basketball team fell on the road, 87-79, on Saturday.
The loss closed out the regular season and marked just the second of the year for the Warriors that now sit at 19-2 overall. Massasoit is off until facing Bunker Hill in the Region 21 Tournament semifinals on Saturday at 12 PM in Charlestown, Mass.
On Saturday, Hostos built up a nine-point lead at intermission, 48-39.
Following halftime, the Warriors outscored the Caimans in the second half, 40-39, but it was not enough as Massasoit finished the game with just four players on the court.
Offensively, Ky'Jae Hargrove led Massasoit with 26 points, shooting 10 of 19 from the floor.
Fellow guard Daja Polk added 14 points in the loss.
