Strong Fourth Quarter Gives Women’s Hoops 61-52 Win vs North Country

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball team outscored North Country CC 15-5 in the fourth quarter to earn a 61-52 victory at the Peter Asiaf Field House on Sunday afternoon.

The victory upped Massasoit's record to 2-0 on the season, sweeping both games of the tipoff tournament the Warrior hosted over the weekend.

The Warriors led 35-23 at halftime as Ky'Jae Hargrove netted 16 of her game-high 24 points prior to intermission.

Following halftime, the visiting Saints (1-1) answered, outscoring Massasoit 24-11 in the period to own a one-point edge, 47-46, heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, Hargrove scored a team-best eight points to guide the Warriors to victory.

Massasoit received a strong showing from guard Speedy Campbell, who finished with 16 points, while Shania Osborne added 12 for the winners.

"It was a very solid win against a quality opponent" head coach Mark Leszczyk said. "Very impressed with how center Shania Osborne bounced back from a tough opening game with 12 points and eight rebounds. Also, the defensive play of guards Lyric Fortune and Alyson Reid were the keys to today's win."

The Warriors return to the hardwood on Tuesday with a road trip to Bristol CC set for 5:30 PM in Fall River.
