BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Behind a game-high 23 points by Ky'Jae Hargrove, the Massasoit women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 campaign with a 64-59 victory vs Nassau Community College at the Asiaf Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Massasoit (1-0) faces North Country CC in the tipoff tournament finals at 2 PM on Massasoit's campus.

"We still have a lot of work to do as a team," head coach Mark Leszczyk said. "Mainly in the decisions we make offensively. But, our players fought hard and played well enough to win an early season game. I am proud of the effort and the intensity on the defensive end."

The Warriors held a slim 28-24 at halftime against the Lions.

In the fourth quarter, Hargrove scored 12 points as the Warriors held off a feverous late comeback by the Lions.

Speedy Campbell netted 12 points for Massasoit, while Alyson Reid and Nina Robinson each chipped in with nine apiece.
