Fourth Quarter STCC Rally Tops Massasoit Women’s Hoops, 62-57

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- In a game of runs, Springfield Tech outscored Massasoit 21-7 in the fourth quarter to steal a 62-57 victory at the Peter Asiaf Field House on Saturday.

The Warriors dropped to 2-3 with the loss, while Springfield Tech improved to 5-2 on the young season.

Sierra Johnson (Brockton) led the Warriors with a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Sienna Johnson's (Brockton) 11 points.

Courtney Foley (Holbrook) added 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals in the loss.

STCC received 19 points from Jamie Staples, including a trio of 3-point plays, and 18 points from center Katelyn Paulk.

In the first half, Massasoit raced out to a 15-0 lead capped by a Sienna Johnson banked 3-pointer with just under five minutes left in the first quarter.

STCC answered right back with a 15-0 run of its own, as the score became tied at 15-all with 6:23 left in the second.

From there the game was a back-and-forth affair, featuring four ties as the Warriors held a slight edge, 25-22 at the break.

In a high scoring third quarter, Massasoit took a 50-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

STCC went on a 17-0 run in the fourth over the first 7:03 of the period as the Warriors were held scoreless until a jumper by Sierra Johnson with 2:57 left in the game.

The Warriors would pull within three off a pair of Sierra Johnson free throws, 60-57, but could get no closer as the Rams would eventually run out the clock.

Massasoit hosts Gateway on Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
