Comeback Falls Short For Women’s Basketball at CCRI, 65-56

WARWICK, R.I. ---- Geornaisha Silva-Moore (Brockton) scored a team-best 16 points and Monica Knight (Halifax) and Tati Dias (Brockton) each added double-doubles, but the Massasoit women's basketball team came up on the short end of 65-56 contest at CCRI on Tuesday night.

Massasoit (1-2) fell behind as much as 18 in the opening stanza, as the Knights used a 19-2 run, featuring four 3-pointers to break the game open.  

Trailing by 13 after the first, Massasoit did not back down in the second quarter. The Warrior defense clamped down, allowing only nine points in the period to CCRI (5-4) and a Silva-Moore layup in the closing seconds pulled the Warriors within two, 36-34, at the break.

The Massasoit offense slowed down in the third, mustering only eight points, four coming from Sierra Johnson (Brockton).

Entering the fourth, down seven (49-42) the Warriors would pull with four, 59-55, off a Silva-Moore jumper with 1:40 left. However, the Knights made their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

Silva-Moore finished 7-of-15 from the floor along with five rebounds and two assists. Knight went for 14 points and 14 boards (five offense) and Dias chipped in with 10 points, 10 boards, three assists and three steals.

The Warriors committed 23 turnovers for the contest, 13 coming in the first half and shot only 36.1 percent from the field in the loss.

The 3-point line proved to be the difference as the Knights buried seven 3s, compared to only two (both coming from Silva-Moore) by Massasoit.

Next up for the Warriors is a road contest at Great Bay CC, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 6 PM.
