Women’s Hoops Opens Spring Slate At NHTI Holiday Inn Tourney

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball team returns to the hardwood this weekend, taking part in the Holiday Inn Tournament hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI).

Massasoit (4-6) faces NHTI (10-6) on Saturday at noon, followed by battling U-Maine Augusta (11-5) on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Warriors are averaging 62 points, 36.7 rebounds and 12.7 assists per game through 10 contests this season. As a squad, Massasoit is shooting 40.2 percent (17th in NJCAA) from the field and 35.5 percent (13th in NJCAA) from downtown.

A trio of Warriors are averaging in double figures, led by freshman Geornaisha Silva-Moore (Brockton) with 16.8. Natascha Elias (Brockton) puts in 14.5 per game, while Tatiana Dias (Brockton) averages 13.7 points.

3-POINT BOMBERS: Massasoit is averaging 6.5 3-pointers made per game and has made 5-or-more 3s in eight of 10 games this season. In back-to-back victories against Bunker Hill and Holyoke CC, the Warriors buried a season-high 12 3s in each game. Natascha Elias averages a team-best 3.0 3-pointers per game.

SNIPER SILVA-MOORE: Geornaisha Silva-Moore, the team's leading scorer, has been locked in from 3-point range in her first season with the Warriors. For the year, Silva-Moore is making 47.9 percent from downtown, the fifth best 3-point shooting average in the NJCAA Division III. She has also scored in double figures in eight of 10 games.

DIAS DISHES OUT DIMES: Point guard Tatiana Dias has filled up the stat sheet for the Warriors as a freshman, averaging 13.7 points, 5.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. Dias' assist average ranks 10th in the NJCAA DIII rankings.

MORE BOARDS FOR MALLEY: Freshman Laura Malley (Halifax) tops the team in rebounds per game, pulling down 9.8 on average. She has posted seven double-digit board performances on the year.
