WARWICK, R.I. ---- A tightly contested first quarter saw the contest slip away, as the Knights topped the Massasoit women's basketball team, 74-45, on Tuesday night.

Massasoit (2-4) trailed CCRI just 21-20 after one quarter of action, thanks to Natascha Elias (Brockton) scoring nine of her team-high 19 points in the quarter.

The second quarter was a different story, as the Knights outscored the Warriors 16-6 to hold a 37-26 at the break. In the second period, Massasoit was held to just one field goal, a 3-pointer from Elias.

In the second half, Massasoit was held to 19 points, while CCRI poured in 37 for the convincing victory.

"It was a very tough loss," head coach Taryn Johnson said. "We got away from our strengths. Our guards struggled against CCRI's match-up zone. They took away looks we are used to having. We struggled on offensive as well and I think that had a lot to do with our frustrations on offense. It was a game we will definitely learn and grow from."

Elias' 19 points featured sinking four 3-pointers and going 5-for-5 from the foul line. She has now made 17 3-pointers in the last 3 games.

Tatiana Dias (Brockton) netted 12 points and added five assists and Geornaisha Silva-Moored chipped in with nine points in the loss.

The Warriors are off until Saturday, when they travel to Quinsigamond for a 1 p.m. contest.
