NEW HAVEN, Conn. ---- The Massasoit CC women's basketball team dropped its season opener on Tuesday night, falling at Gateway CC, 83-53.
Massasoit (0-1) travels to Dean College on Thursday to face the Bulldogs at 8 p.m.
"We fell into foul trouble early on," head coach Taryn Johnson said. "Gateway pressed us the whole game and we struggled to score offensively. Geornaisha (Silva-Moore) fouled out early in the fourth quarter and that hurt us."
Massasoit trailed 37-22 at the break.
In the third quarter, Gateway exploded for 24 points to take a commanding 63-39 heading into the fourth and put the game out of reach.
Natascha Elias (Brockton) led the team with 17 points, 12 coming in the second half, including a pair of 3's.
Silva-Moore (Brockton) added 13 and Laura Malley (Halifax) added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
