Only Need Five To Play, Win

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit CC women's basketball team only had five players available to play on Tuesday, Jan. 14 against Bristol CC, but that was all it would need cruis- ing to a 101-42 home victory.

The Warriors opened the season with 11 players on their roster, but injuries and intersession class schedules dwindled down the roster to just five active players when they hosted the Bristol Bees.

Bristol, led by Ashley Tillman, who at the time ranked second in the nation in scoring average at over 25 points per game, sat just two games behind the Warriors in the league standings. Despite only having five players -- Tianna Johnson (Brockton), Stephanie Goddard (Randolph), Marina Palladino (Carver), Ashley Andrade (Randolph) and Fredi Lawson (Boston) -- the Warriors flexed their muscles and reached the 100-point plateau for the second time this season.

Palladino had a career game, pouring in the most points by a Warrior this season (38) on 16 of 25 shooting. Johnson posted a triple- double -- 14 points, 14 assists, 10 rebounds -- while Andrade (25) and Lawson (22) each surpassed 20 points in the victory. The fifth starter, Goddard, also produced recording career highs in steals (8) and rebounds (6). Massasoit proved that in the game of basket- ball you only need five to play and they gave Bristol more than they could bargain for in the 59-point victory.
