Massasoit Women's Basketball Win Streak Reaches Seven

CONCORD, N.H. ---  Fredi Lawson (Boston/J.E. Burke HS) posted 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the Massasoit women's basketball team to a 59-47 victory over NHTI at the NHTI Holiday Inn New Year Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the seventh in a row for the Warriors.

Massasoit (7-3) also received 21 points along with eight rebounds from Ashley Andrade (Randolph/Randolph HS) and 11 points from Marina Palladino (Carver/Carver HS). 

"Despite only having six girls today, I thought we really played well," head coach Mark Brathwaite said. "Fredi and Ashley were big for us today and we did a good job moving the basketball."

Lawson was a force on the glass for Massasoit as 14 of her career-high 20 rebounds were offensive. Overall, Massasoit out-rebounded NHTI, 48 to 32. A total of 21 of the Warriors' 48 rebounds were offensive, which proved to a big factor in the victory.  Massasoit also forced 20 turnovers, while only committing 12 of its own.

The Warriors held a 17-point lead after halftime and were able to hold on in the second half to capture their seventh straight victory. 

Tiana Johnson (Brockton/New Mission HS) produced a strong game a point guard for Massasoit. Despite only scoring three points, Johnson grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists in the win.

The Warriors will play again on Sunday against the winner of Berkeley (N.Y.) and the University of Maine Augusta in the tournament championship.
