Softball Falls in District Semifinals at Anne Arundel, 10-2

ARNOLD, Maryland ---- The Massasoit softball team fell behind early and was unable to bounce back, falling 10-2 at Anne Arundel CC in the NJCAA Division III District H Softball Tournament on Saturday morning.

The Warriors close out the 2018 campaign with a 5-10 record, highlighted by winning their first Region 21 title since 2013. The Riverhawks (12-20) advance to the district finals.

"I am so proud of these girls for getting this far," head coach Jordan McDermott said. "It hurt not having Courtney Foley (illness) in the lineup today, but the girls battled all year. You never like to end the season with a loss, but proud of the way the girls stuck together. The team should be proud of what they accomplished this season."

AACC jumped out to a 2-0 lead, as the tournament host used a RBI double from Katherine Rosati and sac fly by Logan Endley-Abbott.

The Riverhawks added on three more runs in the last of the third, as Rosati clubbed a run scoring single and Kaitlyn Nutwell roped a two-run base knock to make it 5-0 in favor of AACC.

Massasoit touched home in the fourth on a steal of home by Mallory Fey (Plymouth) and tacked on another in the fifth, when Jazmyn Conrad (Dorchester) scored on an AACC error.

Unfortunately, AACC tacked on two in the fourth and three in the fifth to end the game in five innings, 10-2.

Fey (4-3) was saddled with the loss for the Warriors, fanning four and allowing eight earned runs in 4.1 innings in the circle.

At the plate, Massasoit finished with four hits, with Conrad (double), Laura Nieske (Watertown), Karen Snow (Duxbury) and Shannen Allen (Hansen) each registering a base knock.

AACC was led by Rosati, who finished 3-for-4 with three RBI for the winners.
