Softball Sweeps Northern Essex in Dominant Fashion

HAVERHILL, Mass. ---- The Massasoit softball team defeated Northern Essex 20-1 and 10-1 to sweep a doubleheader in Region 21 action. 

Massasoit (3-5) now controls its own destiny, up 2-0 in the four-game series with the Knights to determine the Region 21 Division III softball champion. The Knights would need to sweep the next twinbill meeting to force a fifth and deciding contest for the regional crown.

Game 1: Massasoit 20, Northern Essex 1 (5 Innings)
Jazmyn Conrad went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs scored and two RBI to lead the Warriors to a 20-1 victory in game one.

In total, the Warriors finished with 26 hits, as Mallory Fey (Plymouth), Neive Doyle (Weymouth) and Shelby Ross (Kingston) all roped four base knocks and each recorded multiple RBI.

Courtney Foley went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBI and launched her first homer of the season in the win.

Shelby Ross also got in done in the circle, picking up the win, by yielding only one run off three hits, fanning two in five innings of work.

Game 2: Massasoit 10, Northern Essex 1 (5 Innings)
Conrad continued to swing a hot back in the second game, recording three more hits in leading the Warriors to a doubleheader sweep.

Conrad went 3-for-4, with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Massasoit offense.

Doyle roped two hits and knocked in two, while Karen Snow (Duxbury) scored twice to go along with a two-hit day.

Mallory Fey picked up the win the circle, going the distance, striking out five. Fey allowed one run (unearned) off three hits in five innings.
