Softball Takes Two From Queensbourough CC

BROCKTON, Mass. ----- Behind plenty of offense, the Massasoit CC softball team swept a doubleheader at home vs. Queensbourough CC, winning by scores of 13-9 and 9-8.

Game 1: Massasoit 13, Queensbourough 9

The Warriors featured a potent offense that scored at least one run in every inning and tallied a total of 12 base hits on the afternoon.

Trailing 9-6 entering the bottom of the sixth, Massasoit put up a crooked number, touching home seven times in the frame and closed the door in the seventh to earn its first win of the season. A two-run triple off the bat of Courtney Foley (Holbrook), along with a two-run single from Jaci Sloan (Abington) highlighted the big inning for the Warriors.

Marissa Pires (New Bedford) had a strong day at the plate, posting a 2-for-3 performance, collecting a pair of doubles, scoring twice and knocking in two. Gabby Boutin (Middleboro) also collected two hits and scored twice and Sloan added two hits, two runs and two RBI in the win.

Mallory Fey (Plymouth) earned the win the circle, going the distance, striking out four and walking only two.

Game 2: Massasoit 9, Queensbourough 8

Massasoit, again fell behind to visiting Queensbourough, but rallied to score seven runs combined over the fourth and fifth innings to earn the twinbill sweep.

Pires continued to swing a hot bat in game two, clubbing two hits, scoring twice and knocking in two in the win. Karen Snow (Duxbury) and Jameelsa Ayala-Silva (Braintree) also knocked in two runs each.

In the fifth, Snow clubbed a two-run double and later scored on a double off the bat of Ayala-Silva for what proved to be the game-winner.

Queensbourough fought back in the top of the sixth, scoring four times, but came up short as Fey closed out the game for starter Karen Snow.

In the circle, Snow went five innings and allowed only two earned runs off seven hits to collect her first win of the season.
