BROCKTON, Mass. ---- East Bridgewater native and former Bridgewater State two-sport standout, Jordan McDermott, was recently named the next head softball coach at Massasoit Community College, announced by Athletics Director Julie Mulvey.

McDermott, replaces Sandy Lombardi, who led the Warriors for the past two seasons.

"We are very excited to add Jordan to our coaching staff here at Massasoit," Mulvey said. "Jordan is a local product who played softball collegiately at Bridgewater State. She knows the area well from her time coaching at the high school and AAU levels which should help with recruiting. She brings a lot of energy and is ready for the 2016 season to get going."

McDermott was a three-year starter and All-MASCAC selection at Bridgewater State in both softball and soccer and served as a captain during her senior season in each sport.

"As a former collegiate player, it has always been a dream of mind to coach at the college level," McDermott said. "I always told I was a leader and I led by example. It is great to get my first head college coaching job at Massasoit. I'm excited and a little nervous. I just want to get the season going."

In softball she finished her three-year career with a .304 batting average, totaling 110 hits in 362 at bats and was 42 of 52 on stolen base attempts. A versatile player, McDermott saw time both in centerfield and at shortstop. Her best season came in her final year at BSU, hitting at a .331 clip along with swiping a team-best 17 steals, only being caught once, leading the Bears to a 29-13 record.

On the soccer pitch, McDermott played forward and started every game during her last two seasons, finishing her career with 13 goals and 12 assists. As a junior she led her team in goals (7) and points (17) and tied for team-high in points as a senior (17) in 2011.

McDermott graduated from Bridgewater State in 2012, earning a bachelor's degree in physical education with a concentration in recreation.

After concluding her collegiate career, McDermott has been heavily involved in coaching at the high school ranks. She has been an assistant softball coach at her alma mater East Bridgewater High School and coached the JV softball program at Oliver Ames High School. At EB, she assisted the Vikings in making back-to-back MIAA State Championships, claiming the title in 2014.

She has also gained valuable coaching experience as head coach of the South Coast Storm AAU program and assisting the Mass Blackout U18 team.

Prior to being a collegiate student-athlete and coaching, McDermott was an Enterprise All-Scholastic selection in both soccer and softball while at East Bridgewater HS.

McDermott takes over a Warrior softball team that finished the 2015 season 5-15 overall and runners up in the NJCAA Region 21 Tournament.

"Now that this is my program, I can take all the things I've learned from my previous coaches, like Lori Salvia at Bridgewater State for softball and Andrea O'Connor in soccer and other coaches I've had. I've tried to take different aspects of coaching from my past and mesh them together to be the coach I want to be," McDermott said.
