Softball Claims Comeback Victory At Dean College, 12-11

FRANKLIN, Mass. ---- In a continuation of a suspended game from April 14, the Massasoit CC softball team came from behind to defeat rival Dean College, 12-11, on Wednesday.

Back on April 14, the second game of a doubleheader was suspended after four innings due to darkness with the Bulldogs owning an 11-7 advantage.

The Warriors would outscore Dean 5-0 in the game's restart, which was played at Dean, including a four-run sixth to earn the win.

"Our defense was really solid today," head coach Sandy Lombardi said. "Pamela (Falcon) made a great catch in right-center. Alex (Pohl) made a nice backhand play at short. We just played great defense when we needed to. Dean put runners on base, but we buckled down defensively and that was the key to the victory."

In the sixth, Massasoit loaded the bases and eventually plated four runs, featuring a clutch two-run double from Kelsey Whiting (Sharon).

Whiting picked up the win in the circle for the Warriors to improve to 3-5 on the year. She fired three innings of one-hit ball out of the bullpen, striking out a trio of Bulldogs.

All 12 runs were scored by the top five batters in the Massasoit lineup. Marrissa Spivey (Brockton) was the lone Warrior with a multi-hit outing, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI. Whiting scored twice and added three RBI.

Ashley Pitts (Rockland), Alex Pohl (Middleboro) and Pamela Falcon (Holbrook) each scored two runs a piece.

The Warriors return to the diamond on Thursday with a doubleheader at Northern Essex slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
