WARWICK, R.I. ---- The Massasoit softball team showed signs of strong play against CCRI, but the Knights were able to outlast the Warriors, claiming a pair of victories by scores of 8-5 and 9-1 on Saturday.
Massasoit (0-8) will host Dean College on Tuesday at Rockland High School.
Game 1: CCRI 8, Massasoit 5
CCRI jumped out early against the Warriors, owning a 2-0 edge after one inning of action.
But, the Warriors responded, putting up a four-spot in the top of the second. Pamela Falcon (Holbrook) started the big rally with a ringing double. Following a strikeout, Kristen Gardner (Rockland) and Kelsey Whiting (Sharon) each ripped RBI singles in front of a two-run double by Sami Murray (Rockland) to give Massasoit a 4-2 lead.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Knights made a surge of their own, scoring twice in third, three times and fourth and once more in the fifth.
Massasoit did tack on a run in the fifth on a RBI single from Marrissa Spivey (Brockton).
Falcon led the Warriors at the plate, posting a 2-for-3 day with a run scored. Murray finished a double and two RBI.
In the circle, Whiting was saddled with the loss. She tallied four strikeouts and issued two walks as her record dropped to 0-1 on the season.
Game 2: CCRI 9, Massasoit 1 (5 innings)
Momentum of earning a victory in game one carried over for CCRI, as the Knights scored eight runs over the first two innings to earn the sweep with a 9-1 win.
Falcon reached base in both at bats, recording a single and walking. The freshman also scored the lone run for the Warriors, coming home on a RBI single from Kristen Gardner in the fourth inning.
