MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ---- The Massasoit Community College softball team saw an early lead slip away, as the Warriors fell in their season opener to Prairie State, 11-3, on Sunday.

The Warriors (0-1) took little time getting on the scoreboard, notching a run in the first inning of the season. Alex Pohl (Middleboro) came home on a Pamela Falcon (Holbrook) on a two-out RBI single to give Massasoit the early lead.

The Pioneers (1-1) responded with a two-spot in the bottom half of the first and later tacked on a run in the third.

Massasoit would not go quietly, as the Warriors pushed across two more runs in the top of the fourth. Pohl and Falcon got the ball rolling for the Warriors, ripping consecutive one-out singles. Later in the frame, Pohl came home on a ground out off the bat of Kristen Gardner (Rockland) and Falcon touched home on an errant throw by Prairie State to even the score, 3-3.

Unfortunately the tie score was short lived, as the Pioneers put up four runs in both the fourth and sixth to claim the victory.

The middle of the Massasoit lineup accounted for six of the team's seven hits as Pohl, Marrissa Spivey (Brockton) and Falcon, the two-three-four hitters, each went 2-for-3 at the dish. Kelly Cronin of Weymouth accounted for the Warriors' other hit on the afternoon.

Falcon (0-1) suffered the loss in the circle. Her first collegiate start was highlighted by striking out the side in the bottom of the first.
