COLUMBIA, Maryland ----- Liam Brennan (Middleboro) placed fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles at NJCAA National Championship, the best finish in any event in Massasoit track & field history at Nationals, as the Warriors finished with three top-seven performances over the weekend at Howard College.
Eddy Fong (Brockton) and Brennan each qualified for the finals in the 110m HH, by posting times of 16.75 and 16.81, to finish seventh and eighth in the preliminaries. In the finals, Brennan upped his game, clocking a time of 16.34 to place fourth overall. Teammate Fong was not far behind, recording a career-best time of 16.52 to claim seventh place in the event.
For Brennan, a sophomore, it marked the second time he has posted a top-eight finish in the event, having placed sixth a season ago at the 2016 Nationals, held at Westfield State.
Julian Polynice of Brockton was the third member of the Massasoit track program to earn a top-seven place. The freshman leaped his way to seventh place in the high jump, traveling a distance of 1.78 meters.
Polynice also just missing the finals in the 400-meter hurdles, placing ninth in a school record time of 59.26 seconds. He also placed 17th in the long jump, recording a top jump of 5.56 meters.
Massaoit also entered in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. The 4x100 foursome of Brennan, Fong, Christian Hill (Stoughton) and Kymric Coon (Milton) placed 11th with a time of 46.53 seconds. The 4x400 squad of Brennan, Hill, Coon and Polynice also earned 11th place (3:51.30).
As a team, the Warriors finished 18th overall in points out of 25 teams that registered a point at Nationals. The nine points scored at Nationals marks the second most by the Massasoit men's track team, just behind the 12 points recorded last year. Kingsbourough College captured the men's team title, totaling 161 points.
