BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --- The Massasoit track & field team opened the 2017 campaign with a strong showing at Bridgewater State in the Bears Invitational on Saturday, producing seven top-10 finishes, highlighted by freshmen Julian Polynice and Jessica Harris breaking school records.

In the long jump, three Warriors surpassed the furthest distance in program history, led by Brockton native Polynice's leap of 6.26 meters, which finished third at the meet. Next was Kymric Coon (Milton), finishing 10th, with a jump of 5.78m and Liam Brennan (Middleboro) also beat the school record, placing 12th overall at 5.73m.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Fong (Brockton) clocked time of 16.57, placing sixth overall at the meet. Brennan placed eighth in the event in 17.61 seconds.

On the women's side, Harris of Whitman, posted a time of 6:12.48 in the 1,500-meter race to set the new fastest time in the event at Massasoit.

Polynice also finished in the top-10 in the high jump, tying for fifth with a best leap of 1.77 meters.

Aaron Prescott (Carver) tossed the fourth-farthest distance in the discus, to place 13th overall with a chuck of 33.08 meters. In addition, Christian Hill (Stoughton) took part in the 100m and long jump.

The quartet of Coon, Fong, Hill and Brennan placed seventh in the 4x100 relay in 47.79.

"I was pleased with our effort in the first meet. With only having two returners, I thought the newcomers were fearless for their first collegiate meet," head coach Matt Jordan said. "We have some experienced track athletes, which showed in where we finished. I think our relay team will definitely improve moving forward."

The Warriors return to the track on Saturday to compete in the Corsair Classic, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth.
