Matt Jordan Named Massasoit’s Next Track & Field Coach

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Matt Jordan, a former standout swimmer at Wheaton College and track star at Ellsworth High School (Ellsworth, Maine), has been named the next Massasoit CC track and field coach, recently announced by the athletics department.

Jordan has an extensive background of training athletes at both the college and high school level and will take over a Massasoit program looking to expand off of last year's inaugural season.

"Matt is very energetic and seems passionate about coaching," Massasoit Athletics Director Julie Mulvey said. "We can really build and learn from last year and Matt is the right guy for our program moving forward. I think he will get even more students interested in the sport and provide the training our student-athletes need to be ready for the season this spring."

Last season, the Massasoit track program competed in three invitationals and sent returning student-athlete Kerry O'Neil to the NJCAA Nationals.

"I'm very excited about coaching the Massasoit Track and Field program this spring," Jordan said. "Coaching has always been a passion of mine and I look forward to helping develop a sport that is relatively new to Massasoit.

"We had a great turnout of interested student-athletes at our first meeting. I look forward to working with each individual to help assist in meeting their goals for the season."

Prior to attending Wheaton College, Jordan produced an excellent high school career in both the pool and on the track. In track, Jordan was a four-year letterwinner, competing as sprinter and middle distance runner in the 100m, 200m and 400m races. In addition, he also ran cross-country in the fall while at Ellsworth High School.

Beyond his experience on land, in the water is where Jordan really excelled. He was a five-time Maine High School State Champion and Maine Swimmer of the Year as a senior in 2004.

Following his high school career, Jordan attended Wheaton College and competed on the swim team for four seasons. At Wheaton, he set school records, which are still standing, in the 200 and 800 freestyle relay.

After graduating from Wheaton, Jordan has been very involved in coaching swimming at both the high school and college ranks. He is currently in his second season as an assistant coach for the Bentley College swimming program.

In addition, since graduating Jordan has been involved in New England Master's swimming and has broken several program records.

Jordan graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in History in 2008 from Wheaton College.

Matt and his wife Lauren reside in Whitman, Mass., with their four-month old son Levi.
