Men’s Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Bryant & Stratton

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's soccer team scored less than two minutes into the match, but that was the lone time it could find the back of the net, falling 2-1 to Bryant & Stratton on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Warriors to 2-4 overall and return to the pitch on Tuesday with a road contest at Holyoke CC slated for 4 PM.

An extremely physical game, which featured eight total cards, started off with a bang. Just 1:40 into the contest, the Warriors crossed a corner kick that flew past the box. It was corralled by Bruno Martins (Brockton) on the far side and he then crossed a pass back into the box, which was then one-timed in by Ruben Almeida (Pawtucket, R.I.) for a thrilling goal. It marked the second goal of the year for the sophomore.

Bryant & Stratton, a former NJCAA member and now affiliated with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), would not go away quietly. In the 12th minute, Mattieu LeRoux punched home a shot off a corner kick pass to square up the contest. The match would go to intermission deadlocked at 1-1.

In the second half, it appeared that the Warriors would retake the lead. Off a corner kick, the ball was deflected to Deivys D'Almeida (New Bedford), who nailed a low lining shot, but Bryant & Stratton keeper Felix Piazzo made a one-armed outstretched save to keep the game tied.

In the 70th minute, LeRoux would strike again for what proved to be the game-winner to give the visiting Bobcats a one-goal victory.

Ollie Dagraca made six saves in net for the Warriors in the loss.
