Men’s Soccer Travels To CCRI With Region 21 Championship On The Line

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's soccer team travels to CCRI on Saturday for a 1 PM match in Lincoln, R.I. With a victory, Massasoit would capture its fourth consecutive Region 21 Championship and ninth title in 11 seasons under head coach Rui Estrela.

A loss for the Warriors would force a third and deciding game against the Knights, slated for Tuesday with a site yet to be determined. Massasoit defeated CCRI 3-1 back on Oct. 4 in Brockton.

Massasoit (9-4-2) has recorded only one loss in its last nine matches, sporting a tally of 7-1-1 over that span. The lone loss came in a 2-0 defeat to ASA New York on Oct. 1.

On offense, the Warriors utilize a two-headed monster up top in sophomores Sidney Cardoso (Portugal) and Ienik Spencer (Pawtucket, R.I.). Cardoso tops the team with 18 goals and six assists (42 points) and Spencer is right behind him with 32 points (13 goals, 6 assists).

Defensively, the backrow of Camnagha Namusse (Pawtucket, R.I.), Ruben Almeida (Pawtucket, R.I.), Miguel Pavao (Portugal) and Nathan Estrela (Falmouth) have been very strong for the Warriors.

In net, freshman Ollie Dagraca (Brockton) has been solid between the posts, allowing 1.37 goals per game and making 59 saves.

Midfielders Blake Brailsford (East Bridgewater), Deivys D'Almeida (New Bedford) and Kyle McGibbon (Jamaica) have also made strong contributions for the Warriors.

CCRI (4-8-1) has struggled down the stretch, registering a 2-4 record over the last six matches.

The Knights' top goal scorer is Ibraheem Aborishade with six goals on the season.
