BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Ienik Spencer (Pawtucket, R.I.) netted three goals as the Massasoit men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over divisional rival CCRI on Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The win ups Massasoit's record to 6-4-1 and puts the Warriors in the driver's seat in capturing the regular season Region 21 crown. The loss drops CCRI to 2-6-1 on the season.

"We got the job today with the win, but I don't think we played to our potential," head coach Rui Estrela said. "Again, I think that has to do with a couple of guys dealing with injuries, but that is no excuse. We could have played better and the game could have been over much sooner. But, it's a great win and we needed this Region 21 win against CCRI today."

Spencer netted his first goal of the day on a perfectly executed give-and-go with Sidney Cardoso (Portugal) inside the box in the 12th minute of action.

In the 28th minute, CCRI was whistled for a foul inside the box and Spencer buried the penalty kick to give the Warriors a commanding 2-0 lead.

However, CCRI could bounce right back and Ibraheem Aborishade buried a cross just 10 seconds after Spencer's penalty kick, shrinking the Warrior lead back to one.

Six minutes into the second half, Cardoso found Spencer again on a cross to give the sophomore the hat trick.

"We scored the two goal and thought the game was over," Estrela said. "That can't happen. We just sat back and the (CCRI) guy just ran right through the middle and that made it 2-1. Luckily we got that third goal back."

Massasoit finished with 30 shots for the game, 20 coming in the first half, as the Warriors peppered CCRI goalie Christian Ellerbe, who finished with nine saves.

Ollie Dagraca (Brockton) earned the win in net for the Warriors, making six stops.

Massasoit hits the road to play the Williams College JV team on Friday at 7 PM.
