Monroe CC Bests Men’s Soccer, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. ---- The Massasoit men's soccer team allowed a goal in the first 26 seconds of action and was unable to recover, eventually falling on the road to Monroe Community College, 3-1 on Saturday.

In the opening minute of action, Massasoit (1-1-1) keeper Ollie Dagraca deflected a Monroe cross, but the ball squirted right to the foot of Vincent Mauro who gave the Tribunes an early 1-0 advantage.

Monroe tacked on another goal when Prince Kermue buried a shot to the back of the net off an assist from Samuel Jiggins in the 23rd minute. The Tribunes led 2-0 at the half.

"We did not come out ready to play today," head coach Rui Estrela said. "We really allowed Monroe CC to manhandle us for all 90 minutes. I was very disappointed in our performance."

Momentum swayed in favor of the visiting Warriors, when defender Miguel Pavao (Portugal) sent a ball up the field to Sidney Cardoso (Portugal), who beat two defenders to pull Massasoit within a single goal. Cardoso's fourth goal of the season came in the 53rd minute.

Unfortunately for Massasoit, the Tribunes would tack on another goal when Niko Nitti intercepted a ball in the Warriors' defense half and netted a breakaway goal  in the 75th minute to round out the scoring for the day.

Cardoso finished with a team-high four shots, two coming on net.
