Revanales Sparks 2-0 Win For Men’s Soccer At CCRI

LINCOLN, R.I. ---- Quick scoring strikes to start each half by Andrew Revanales (Trinidad/Sharon HS) sparked the Massasoit men's soccer team to defeat the Community College of Rhode Island, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Revanales, who now has a team-best four goals on the season, found the back of the net just 3:30 into the contest, off a through ball from midfielder Elvis Andrade (Brockton/Penn Foster HS).

Despite producing plenty of scoring chances, Massasoit (2-1, 1-0 Region XXI) held just a 1-0 lead at the break. Massasoit finished with 20 total team shots, 11 on net.

To start the second half, Revanales struck, yet again, this time in the second minute of the second half (46:12) to account for the scoring. Andrade picked up his second assist of the game on the play.

"The boys played well," head coach Rui Estrela said. "We should have scored a couple more, but I'll take the 2-0 win. They played hard, they played aggressive and they moved the ball around and created space, which allowed the guys to do some things up top. We created plenty of chances. We only capitalized on two, but the guys did a much, much better job overall."

The win comes at the heels of a 6-0 loss to nationally ranked Mercer County this past Sunday. Coach Estrela was pleased with the team's turnaround and strong play overall against the Knights.

"I think (the team) realized what's at stake now and they feel like they have to work," Estrela said. "Hopefully that hard works continues even after a win today."

In net, Wilson Fernandes (Cape Verde/Shea HS) made five saves for his second shutout of the season.

The loss drops CCRI to 1-3 on the season (0-1 Region XXI) as the Warriors have now defeated the Knights in seven straight matches.

NEXT GAME
Massasoit is off until Saturday, when the Warriors play their home opener against Monroe CC at Warrior Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
