Five Men’s Soccer Players Named All-Region XXI

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- A total of five Massasoit men's soccer student-athletes earned All-Region XXI accolades recently announced by the conference office.

Four of the five all-region selections hail from Brockton in sophomores Joel Lobo, Pepe Vieira, Julio Gomes and freshman Flavio Cula. Sophomore Adilson DaRosa, from Quincy, joined the quartet on the All-Region XXI First Team.

Massasoit claimed its second straight Region XXI Championships in 2014, in large part due to the play of the five players selected for postseason honors. The Warriors advanced to the Northeast District Championship this season, before falling to Monroe College to end the year at 14-5-1.

Joel Lobo, Forward
Lobo was one of the most prolific goal scorers in Region XXI and across the country. He finished his sophomore season leading the region in goals (22) and points (48) and produced six multi-goal games. His goal and point totals ranked tied for seventh and 11th in the nation, respectively.

Pepe Vieira, Midfield
Vieira was the engine behind the Warrior offense, playing center midfield. The sophomore finished third in the region in goals (8) and topped the league in assists (8).

Adilson DaRosa, Julio Gomes, Flavio Cula, Defenders
Three quarters of the Massasoit defensive back line earned all-region recognition in DaRosa, Gomes and Cula. DaRosa started all 20 matches as a central defender, while Gomes and Cula served as the left and right full backs.

DaRosa went a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks during the season, while Gomes scored one goal and had two assists. Cula chipped in with three assists as well.
