Men's Soccer Takes On Dean College In Region XXI Finals

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- For the sixth consecutive year the Region XXI Division I New England title will be decided by the same two teams -- Massasoit CC and Dean College. The two schools square off on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Longley Field in Franklin, Mass.

MASSASOIT SCOUTING REPORT
Record: 10-5-2

The Warriors closed out the season on a high note, winning their final four matches to end the regular season at 10-5-2 overall and 9-1 vs. Region XXI teams.

The lone loss in region play came to Dean at home on Sept. 18.

The four-match win streak coincidentally started on Oct. 16 with a 4-3 victory at Dean, which marked the 100th career coaching victory for Massasoit head coach Rui Estrela.

Massasoit has scored 53 total goals, led by forward Joel Lobo's 12, which is tied for second in the region. Lobo has also dished out five assists. Joining Lobo as offensive threats, includes midfielder Ruben Varela (8g, 5a), forward Joao Cardoso (6g, 4a), forward John Corr (5g, 0a), midfielder Stephan Teixeira (4g, 5a) and midfielder Edmar "Pepe" Vieria (4g, 4a).

On the defense end, the Warriors have received strong play from their back row, featuring Adilson DaRosa, Julio Gomes, Rafael Monteiro and Rockfeller Fixe.

In net, Massasoit has split goal keeping duties between Torrey Mederios and Andre Reis, who have combined to yield only 1.33 goals per game and total six shutouts.

DEAN SCOUTING REPORT
Record: 8-6-1

The Bulldogs closed out the season going 1-1-1 in their final three matches to finish 8-6-1 overall and 6-3-0 in regional action.

Offensively, Dean has netted 29 goals, while only yielding 19 defensively. A trio of Bulldogs have scored five-plus goals on the season, led by Javan Phillip and Kevin Sosa each with six. Alex Bedrosian has scored five goals and dished out two assists up top for the Bulldogs.

Just like Massasoit, Dean has utilized the two-goalie system with Nich Crouch and Denzel Teleau splitting time in net.  Crouch has allowed only two goals in six matches for a microscopic 0.39 goals against average.

SEASON SERIES
Tied, 1-1

Massasoit and Dean split the season series, with each team winning on the road.

Dean won the first meeting at Massasoit 2-1 before the Warriors returned the favor winning 4-3 in Franklin.

2012 TOURNAMENT
Mark Mackenzie netted a goal in the closing seconds to send the tournament final to overtime, tied 3-3. However, Dean would score in the extra period to knock off the Warriors, 4-3.
