CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. ---- Freshman Mike Cappadona (Foxboro) carded a 93 (+21) as the first-ever Massasoit Community College student-athlete to compete at the NJCAA Golf Nationals, held at Chautauqua Country Club on Tuesday.

"It was a tough opening round for Capps (Cappadona) today," head coach Chris Ballerini said. "Hopefully he learned from his mistakes and has a better feel for the course tomorrow. I am confident he will bounce back."

The Foxboro native will hit the links again on Wednesday, with his scheduled tee time slated for 9 AM. Cappadona will start at the 10th tee box.

The top team performance on the first day of the tournament belonged to Sand Hills CC posting a team score of 294 (+6). Reigning Region XXI team champion CCRI currently sits tied for fifth place at 311 (+23).

Individually, Brandon Grzywacz of Sand Hills CC fired a two-under-par 70 for the low score on day one of the tournament.
