Men’s Basketball Outlasts BFIT, 57-48

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Sophomore center Mark Munroe (Quincy) dominated the paint as Massasoit outlasted Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, 57-48 on Tuesday evening at the Peter Asiaf Field House.

In a slugfest of the game, in which points were tough to come by, Munroe finished with a double-double, posting a game-high 21 points and 19 rebounds and went 8-for-12 from the field as the Warriors improved to 1-3 on the season.

Rael Handy (Easton) went 8-for-10 at the charity stripe and dished out seven assists, while Ridge Francisque (Brockton) chipped in with eight points.

The Warriors trailed 23-21 at the half.

Handy made a pair of free throws off a BFIT technical foul with 11:55 left in the second half to give Massasoit its first lead of the game, 33-32. The two free throws started a 15-3 run, featuring three baskets from Munroe, as the Warriors expanded its lead to 47-35.

The Chargers would hang around in the closing minutes of the contest, but Handy and Mark Georges (Avon) made clutch free throws to hang on for the win.

Ty'Clif Blake topped the Chargers with 20 points.

Massasoit hosts Springfield Tech on Saturday at 3 PM.
