Northern Essex Tops Men’s Hoops in Shootout, 100-94

HAVERHILL, Mass. ---- In a high octane scoring contest, the Massasoit men's basketball team came up just short, falling on the road to Northern Essex, 100-94 on Saturday afternoon.

Massasoit (0-3) was led offensively by point guard Rael Handy (Easton), who finished with season-high 37 points on 10-of-24 shooting. The speedy sophomore was impressive at the free throw line, making 14-of-15 attempts.

The 37-point effort by Handy marked the most points scored in a game by a Warriors since Mike Ward poured in 40 at Great Bay CC on Nov. 29, 2016.

Mark Georges (Avon) netted a career-best 19 points, with eight boards, while Rollsky Edouard (Holbrook) sank four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points. Center Mark Munroe (Quincy) chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds and Ridge Francisque (Brockton) added 10 points in the loss.

Northern Essex led 51-45 at the half.

The Knights were led by Eddie Cardona's 32 points, as NECC placed four players in double figures. Northern Essex finished with 11 3-pointers made, with Adam Golfstein draining five.­­­

The Warriors will host Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
